I created one novel mechanistic subclaim (dietary cholesterol suppresses endogenous synthesis, importance 0.35) to carry the physiological basis for the "weak" average effect. No named argument created — a single natural supporting line, transparent without grouping.     Controlled feeding studies find that dietary cholesterol raises blood cholesterol by only a small amount per unit consumed: pooling of roughly 160 feeding trials puts the increase at about 2 mg/dL of total cholesterol (close to 2 mg/dL of LDL) for each additional 100 mg/day, a change most reviewers regard as modest. The response is also markedly uneven across people. A substantial minority (often estimated at around a third of the population) are "hyper-responders" whose cholesterol rises appreciably, while "hypo-responders" show little or no change, a heterogeneity the National Lipid Association describes as marked inter-individual variability. A homeostatic mechanism helps explain the small average effect: when cholesterol intake rises, the body tends to reduce its own endogenous synthesis. This body of evidence is what led the 2015 US Dietary Guidelines to drop their longstanding 300 mg/day limit. The main qualification concerns the word "weak." At high intakes the effect is larger: a meta-analysis of intervention trials feeding 500 to 1400 mg/day reported an LDL increase near 7 mg/dL, and dose-response analyses find the relationship is real and roughly dose-dependent rather than absent. The American Heart Association accordingly continues to advise moderating cholesterol intake and stresses that the effect is genuine, not negligible, particularly for hyper-responders and people with diabetes. The disagreement is therefore less about the underlying numbers, which are broadly agreed, than about whether an average per-unit effect of a few mg/dL and a strongly variable individual response should be summarized as "weak."
