Melanie Matchett Wood, one of the nine verifiers, writes in the companion paper that there is a history of closely related ideas in the literature (Ellenberg and Venkatesh's class-group pigeonhole, Golod-Shafarevich towers with prescribed splitting after Hajir, Maire and Ramakrishna, class field tower lattices in coding theory) which are not appropriately referenced in the model's paper, and that a human author would be expected to cite them. The published manuscript does cite Hajir-Maire and Hajir-Maire-Ramakrishna for the tower construction and gives a broad survey of prior unit-distance work, so the shortfall concerns the pigeonhole and lattice antecedents rather than the tower. The companion paper's abstract itself supplies the missing attributions.
