The warped-brane-world growth-saturation subclaim received its first assessment: CONTESTED (credence 0.3 that it holds generally), because the intrinsic-saturation result is specific to the Casadio-Fabi-Harms tidal-charged model while Giddings-Mangano declined to assert it for warped scenarios generally.\n\nMateriality judgment: the change weakens the growth-saturation argument only as a general statement.     In August 2008 the astrophysicist Rainer Plaga posted a paper arguing that micro black holes produced at the Large Hadron Collider could be metastable, accrete matter at the Eddington limit, and endanger Earth through the resulting growth and radiation. Two published responses concluded that no catastrophic growth occurs in the scenario he describes, and the weight of the published literature sits with them. Steven Giddings and Michelangelo Mangano replied within weeks that Plaga's calculation combines Hawking-radiation and accretion formulas outside the domain in which they can consistently be applied together, so the hazardous phase of his scenario does not arise in a consistent treatment. Independently, Roberto Casadio, Sergio Fabi and Benjamin Harms, authors of the very brane-world black hole model on which Plaga built, analysed black hole growth and decay in that framework (Physical Review D 80, 084036, 2009) and found that the black hole mass peaks far below any dangerous scale, so growth to catastrophic size does not appear possible. Plaga revised his paper to dispute the criticisms and has not conceded the point, so the disagreement was never formally resolved between the parties. But no independent analysis has vindicated his scenario, the rebuttal comes in part from the originators of the underlying model, and more than a decade of LHC operation has passed without incident. The claim rests on model-dependent theoretical analysis rather than direct measurement, which is why it stands as well supported rather than definitively established.
